Flying Eagles
1-5 pm, Richmond Elks Lodge
The Flying Eagles Jazz Band musical style captures a swinging four beat tempo. The band has a traditional New Orleans jazz sound and lays down a steady groove for the dancers. The Flying Eagles play everything from slow blues and rags to spirituals and up-tempo classic jazz favorites. Our goal is to keep the audience dancing.
Jim Broadstreet on trumpet is the leader. Playing music in the San Francisco bay area for decades, Jim came from a family of musicians and has a strong backgound in gospel music.
On trombone is Rich Newcomb. Rich is a solid, driving player with amazing solo ideas. It’s great to have him on the front line. Rich also plays with the Thrown Together Jazz Band.
Gerry Turner plays both tuba and stand-up bass with amazing proficiency.
Our piano player is Rich Owens. He helps drive the band with his fantastic energy. Rich also leads his own Thrown Together Jazz Band.
On drums is Adam Roderick. He’s considered one of best drummers in the bay area.
Also holding the rhythm down on both guitar and banjo is Jeff Green. Jeff is also active in ragtime music. Jeff is busy in several traditional jazz and ragtime bands locally.
On clarinet/reeds is Casey Jones. Casey is a high school music director and also plays with the King Street Giants. Casey plays with a purpose and his passionate solos are a wonder!
New Orleans Jazz Club of Northern California
WHAT: Musical society dedicated to the promotion, education and preservation of early New Orleans jazz, including Dixieland, blues, tin pan alley, minstrelsy, ragtime and Chicago swing.
WHEN/WHERE: NOJCNC meets 1-5 p.m. every third Sunday (the fourth Sunday in September) at the Richmond Elks Lodge in El Sobrante, Calif. (Map below)
WHO’S WELCOME: Everyone. All ages, all backgrounds, anyone who enjoys fun-loving, toe-tapping music from the early 20th century, including fans, dancers, and musicians (who can sit in on the two jam sets each month).
